Burjeel Holdings has appointed Reuben George Joseph as chief financial officer, with effect from early October, elevating the transformation executive from his current role as general manager of transformation. Joseph, a Chartered Accountant with more than 20 years of experience across financial reporting, treasury, merger and acquisition activity, restructuring, and finance transformation, will succeed Muhammed Shihabuddin, who will remain in the role through September 30 to support the transition. The appointment underscores the Abu Dhabi-based healthcare group's focus on maintaining financial discipline while pursuing expansion in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.
The appointment was approved by Burjeel's board and reflects Joseph's deep involvement in the company's strategic finance, capital allocation, corporate development, and broader transformation initiatives. Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil said Joseph "has already been closely involved in several of the Group's strategic finance and transformation initiatives and has developed a strong understanding of Burjeel's businesses and goals." Vayalil emphasized that the appointment "provides continuity and brings together financial stewardship, strategic insight and execution capabilities" as Burjeel "enters its next phase of growth." No search firm involvement was disclosed in the appointment announcement.
Joseph joins Burjeel after serving as chief financial officer of VPS Health and holding board and senior advisory roles in his previous career. His background spans complex financial operations across multiple sectors, with particular expertise in managing large-scale transformations and capital structure optimization. At Burjeel, his internal appointment as general manager of transformation positioned him to understand the company's operational challenges, asset maturity trajectories, and strategic priorities across its multi-brand healthcare platform.
Burjeel Holdings, founded in 2007, operates the largest private healthcare network in the United Arab Emirates, with an integrated, multi-brand platform spanning primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary care. The group operates hospitals, medical centers, pharmacies, and specialized wellness facilities across the UAE and Oman, with a growing presence in Saudi Arabia. Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi serves as its flagship tertiary care facility, and the group was the largest healthcare provider listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange when it launched in October 2022. Chief Executive Officer John Sunil previously highlighted strong top-line and bottom-line growth driven by improved operational leverage and asset utilization.
The succession reflects Burjeel's confidence in developing finance talent internally as the healthcare group pursues further regional expansion and asset maturity ramp-up. Joseph's background in M&A and restructuring may prove valuable as Burjeel evaluates acquisition opportunities and optimizes its capital allocation strategy. His appointment ensures continuity at a critical time for the healthcare operator, which faces opportunities to expand utilization at its newer facilities, particularly Burjeel Medical City, while managing the financial implications of recent facility relocations and new market entries in Saudi Arabia.
