Tom Gayner is chairman and chief executive officer of Markel Group Inc., the listed insurance and diversified holding company based in Richmond, Virginia. He joined Markel in 1990 and has overseen the group's investing activities, becoming co-chief executive officer in 2016 and sole chief executive at the start of 2023. He was appointed to the additional role of chairman of the board in September 2026.
