Swyftx has confirmed Cathryn Lyall as chair of the Australian cryptocurrency exchange, the company announced on 3 September 2026. Lyall had been acting in the role since April 2026, when the board also installed co-founder Alex Harper and then chief financial officer Andrea Yuen as acting co-chief executives following the departure of former chief executive Jason Titman.
The confirmation of Lyall as permanent chair coincided with the board's decision to appoint Yuen as sole chief executive, with Harper stepping back from his acting executive role to resume his position as an executive director. Lyall said the decision reflected Yuen's performance over the past several months, describing her as the right person to lead the business through its next phase.
Governing a platform in transition
Lyall said the market for retail investment products was changing quickly with the rise of all in one investment apps, and that Swyftx was no longer a crypto asset only platform. She pointed to Yuen's background in leadership roles across different Asia Pacific financial centres as central to the board's confidence in her ability to lead the business into what Lyall described as a new era for the company.
As chair, Lyall oversees a board that has steered Swyftx through a period of significant change. The company was granted an Australian financial services licence by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission in July 2026, allowing it to offer products such as leverage trading, which launched the same month. Swyftx has also expanded through acquisition over the past two years, taking over New Zealand exchange Easy Crypto in March 2025 and United States broker Caleb and Brown in October 2025.
Board changes since April
The governance changes confirmed in September followed a period of interim leadership that began in April 2026, when the board replaced Titman and installed Harper and Yuen as acting co-chief executives while Lyall took on the acting chair role. Swyftx serves more than a million retail, business and self managed superannuation fund customers across Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
With the chief executive and chair roles now confirmed on a permanent basis, Swyftx's board has completed the leadership transition that began earlier in the year, positioning the company for what Lyall described as its next phase of growth as a regulated financial services provider. The company has said its focus is on building out regulated products for Australian investors rather than on trading volumes alone.
