Bank Nizwa announced Tariq Atiq as its Acting Chief Executive Officer following the recent exit of Khalid Jamal Al Kayed.
Tariq joined Bank Nizwa in December 2025 as Deputy CEO and Chief Operations Officer, working closely with Al Kayed to ensure a smooth transition of leadership responsibilities.
He joined from National Bank of Oman where he spent almost 5 years, latterly as COO having originally joined as the Chief Retail and Digital Banking Officer. Prior to this Tariq was with Bank Muscat where he was Deputy Head of Card Services.
During Tariq's 25 years in the banking sector, his experience spanned across retail banking, corporate banking, SMEs, cards, and digital banking. Throughout his career, he has led transformation initiatives and contributed to the development of digital solutions aimed at improving operational performance and customer experience. His work has also supported initiatives such as cashless government transactions, the development of e-commerce infrastructure, and the implementation of digital banking platforms.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arkansas State University, an Executive MBA from HEC Paris, and has completed the General Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
Tariq said he was honoured to take on the role and lead the bank into its next phase of growth. “I am deeply honored to announce my appointment as the Acting CEO of Bank Nizwa. Having been part of this sector, I am excited to lead our talented team at Bank Nizwa as we continue to redefine the landscape of Islamic banking in the Sultanate,” he said.
